Facial acupuncture

Facial acupuncture is acupuncture with extra attention to the face. Alexandra places fine, single-use needles at a few points on the face, neck, hands and feet, and sometimes on the body too, while you rest. It is an hour of quiet, not a cosmetic procedure.

What to know before you come

Who usually comes for it

Adults who already like acupuncture and wonder about the face, or who want an unhurried hour that includes their face and neck. Some come with a skin routine they like and want to talk it over. Some are simply curious.

What a visit is like

A talk first about your sleep, stress and routine. Then you lie down, Alexandra tells you where each needle will go before she places it, and you rest for about half an hour. A first visit is about 75 minutes, and later visits about an hour.

What you may feel afterward

A brief pinch or a dull ache at some points, light tingling, or nothing at all. Some people feel sleepy afterward. A small mark or light bruise can show where a needle was and fades. Facial points are the likeliest to leave one, so tell us if you have an event coming up.

Tell us first

Tell us if you are pregnant, take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, have had lymph nodes removed, have a pacemaker (it matters if electrical stimulation is used), or are nervous about needles. We plan around it, or ask you to check with your doctor first.

How many visits people plan for

After your first visit we suggest a rhythm, and you decide. It is our plan for you, never a promise, and you can stop whenever you like.

What it does not do, and when to see a doctor instead

It does not lift or fill, and we cannot say what it will do for your skin. It is not care for a rash, acne or a changing mole: see a dermatologist or your doctor for those, and see a doctor first if anything about your skin worries you.
